How many tires are recycled?
Data last updated on December 5, 2025
This page presents data about tire recycling in Ontario, including the weight of tires supplied and recycled, refurbished (retreaded) or reused year-over-year.
Ontario’s recycling laws require businesses to report this data to RPRA, as the regulator responsible for enforcing these laws. The reporting of this information helps ensure tires are properly collected and recycled, retreaded or reused—and that valuable resources, like crumb rubber and metal, are kept out of landfill.
RPRA updates this page annually. The data reflects what was reported as of December 5, 2025, and is subject to change.
The businesses that make or sell tires in Ontario must report the weight they supply into the province each year to RPRA. The tires you buy at a retail store—like car or motorcycle tires—are a part of the total amount that businesses supplied into the province.
Notes:
When you drop off used tires at a recycling location, they’re collected and sent to facilities where they are sorted and processed or broken down into different materials. From there, valuable materials, like crumb rubber and metal, are recovered and used in new products, or the tires are retreaded to be used again.
The businesses that make or sell tires in Ontario are required to collect and recycle, retread or reuse them once consumers are finished with them and report the weight of tires they recycle or retread each year.
(Includes retreaded and reused tires)
Note: 2019 is the first year of tires recycling data that was required to be reported.
